"The Fountain of Eternal Life"
Oil, gold leaf powder on canvas, 72x72 inches. (2024)
The Fountain of Eternal Life is a painting that symbolizes spiritual atonement for anyone who has been unfairly disenfranchised in the world. Oskar states, “I have traveled to Palestine multiple times and have seen the dire situation Palestinians have endured for decades. What upsets me most is the suffering of children whose innocence has been cruelly taken from them. I started this painting in response to the genocide in Gaza, hoping to send a message of hope. Ultimately, the painting became a universal symbol of cosmic justice for all people. We must believe that Good will ultimately prevail, and those who have suffered in this life will be restored. That’s why it felt right to make this print series available to support the PCRF and its vital work with children in Palestine.”
The painting depicts characters who have arrived in a place free from suffering, representing Palestinians and other marginalized communities affected by war, social injustice, cancer, and more. On the other side of the fountain, we see children with illuminated auras, their innocence restored by the mystical waters, surrounded by various mythological creatures in a dreamlike atmosphere. This invites introspection and engages the imagination. The intricate details suggest an underlying narrative or a collection of interconnected stories, encouraging viewers to find their own interpretations and meaning within the artwork, which took nearly a year to complete.
